The "Middle Passage"
was the
journey of slave trading
ships from the west coast of Africa, where the slaves were obtained,
across the Atlantic, where they were sold or, in some cases, traded for
goods such as molasses, which was used in the making of rum. |
 |
The
Middle
Passage was the longest,
hardest, most dangerous, and also most horrific part of the journey of
the
slave ships.
It has come to represent the ulitmate
in human misery and suffering.

The
Largest Slave Auction was on March 3, 1859 in Savannah Georgia. Pierce M. Butler auctioned off the
human
portion of his property to help pay off his debts. It was the
largest
sale of slaves on record in the United States, and it was referred to
as
"The Weeping Time." |
